There are places deeper than hell…

Behold! The new poster design…  featuring Mazimus:

Mr. Nash has done it again with his digital pen and ink. I’m loving it and hope you do, too.
You can see the full Mazimus image at Mike’s site here.

In other news, John Emurai continues to tinker with the eel demon that rises from Kevin’s mouth. After deliberating over what we can and can’t shoot (keeping our non-existant budget in mind) we’re hoping to capture some footage of Kevin in bed (played by Ron Elwell) so John’s CG work has an environment to “live” in. We’ll just swap out the hospital room with a bedroom setting. If all goes well, this will become the foundation for the Sleeping Deep teaser. Here’s a screen grab from John’s CG work:

The latest, greatest draft of the script continues to make the rounds in L.A. with literary agents, companies, contests and festivals. We’ll see what happens. These things take time and, in the end, I’m not sure what will come of it. But you just have to put it out there and hope for the best. To be honest, I’m leaning more toward holding on to the property and finding co-producers; this way I can retain ownership of the creative content and develop the property as I see fit. Either way – selling or holding on for dear life – there are no guarantees. But if the price is right… ;)

HP was recently in the news. No, not Hewlett-Packard. I’m talking about H.P. Lovecraft. Apparently Ron Howard is on deck to direct Image Comic’s graphic novel “The Strange Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft” sometime in the future. Variety reports here. Not sure how I feel about this. Ron Howard? That’s a strange venture indeed. However, as a filmmaker with a Lovecraftian script in tow, any bit of H.P. on the brains of industry heavies can only help little projects like The Sleeping Deep gain footing and possibly momentum. I say, bring on the weird!

April 1st kicks off ScriptFrenzy. That’s no fools joke either. The online event challenges you to pen that blockbuster (100 pages) during the month of April. I had ambitions of hunkering down and hammering out Part II of The Sleeping Deep, Lair of Mazimus although I’m not sure if those ambitions are founded in any shred of reality. There are other projects staring me down that demand attention.

Speaking of Mazimus… that gruesome guy actually has his own website! Crafty bugger he is. Well, okay. I helped him out with that. You know, to further along his career as demonic soul-eater from depths deeper than hell. Eventually this site will feature the auditory works of our composer Shawn P. Russell, but for now you can simply gaze into his gaping gullet or stare into his evil eyes. Be warned, you will start to feel your pathetic life slipping away, inching into oblivion.

Well, that’s it for now. Thanks for tuning in and checking out news from The Sleeping Deep.
