Slamdance: By Filmmakers, For Filmmakers

Slamdance “tentatively” announces screenplay Semifinalists this week, although there’s no telling exactly when.

Tentative 2009 Screenplay Competition Results Announcement Schedule: Semifinalists announced in the third week of August, Quarterfinalists announced at the end of August, Finalists announced mid-September.  All finalists will be posted on www.slamdance.com.

BTW – I thought it went Quarter then Semi?

I submitted The Sleeping Deep since they claim:

The Slamdance Screenplay Competition is dedicated to discovering and supporting emerging writing talent. We welcome screenplays in every genre, any budget, on any topic, from anywhere in the world.  Our mission is to nurture and bring attention to talented screenwriters and introduce them to the entertainment industry. A unique feature of the competition is providing constructive feedback for every entrant. We’ve established a strong track record through our competition successes and continue to discover outstanding new work.

This may be true, and a noble mission indeed, but I still think they are secretly looking for the next low-budget character drama that can be made for a song. We’ll see. There’s nothing inherently wrong with low-budget character dramas. Not at all. Hell I even made one. I’m just expecting to receive the “We regret to inform you…” email sometime before Sunday.

Although it could go the other way. There’s no telling with these things. Just gotta throw it at the wall and see if it sticks.
