I didn’t go crazy with pictures from the Vegas trip, just wanted to snap a few on the fly…

Vegas really does live up to its reputation as a non-stop pinball machine of vices coming at you from all directions.

Regarding the festival screening…

Thursday night The Sleeping Deep 1-minute teaser opened up the evening block of films. Unfortunately, the aspect ratio setting on the video projector was not widescreen 16:9, so it appeared squished into 4:3 mode. And the actual projection quality was rather dismal; blotchy pixels, poor color saturation, skipping frames… ugh. However, Shawn P. Russell’s music sounded loud, strong and packed a punch, so we had that going for us.

I shared a Q & A session on stage with the director of the short film The Bet, which went well. Some questions were asked about “how did you get the shot in the shower?” and “What was your lighting set-up” and “What’s the premise all about?”… of which I answered as best I could, trying to sound like I knew what the hell I was talking about.

After that, we took in a music video and a few features then Sean either lost his wallet or had it stolen which kinda put the kibosh on the evening’s good time vibe.

I was able to meet and talk with Mike Conway, a dignitary of the Las Vegas filmmaking community, with a magnetic personality, who has produced a series of independent sci-fi features over the years. This was a real treat as we have only known each other online since 2004 via IndieClub. I’ll be back in Vegas in a few weeks for Conway’s annual IndieMeet, a gathering of filmmakers who spend Memorial Day weekend screening their films, presenting “how to” demonstrations, and just having a great time meeting other folks pursuing celluloid digital dreams. I’m looking forward to it as I will be screening all of the Sleeping Deep materials and giving a presentation explaining in chronological order where we’re at with the process.

Then we drove back Friday at noon. Would have been nice to stay through the weekend, but I’ll be back soon enough.

Viva Las Vegas.
