I just signed and sent off a 2-year producer’s agreement/release along with the latest draft of the script to a seriously “big” (seriously) lit manager who has spent many years producing, packaging and financing films, many of them bonafide recognizable blockbusters with A-list talent in the sci-fi, fantasy, and horror genres. Always a good sign, right?

This, however, does not mean a “done deal” is etched in stone for The Sleeping Deep. If it were only that easy! After reviewing the script (which is bound to blow them away;) they will either get back to me with development notes(!), thus making the process official OR they could easily reply with a “PASS” which pretty much terminates the agreement. Yes, another waiting game, another crapshoot… and I have no clue how to play the craps table.

For the moment I am pleased to have made it this far. I got through the front yard gate, onto the porch, the door creaked open and eye contact was made. Will a meaningful conversation follow? Will the door swing shut, bonking me on the nose, sending me on my way? Your guess is as good as mine. :)

I am hopeful yet grounded in reality. Chances are slim, but a guy can dream, right? No matter the outcome I’ll be sure to post results.

As always, stay tuned…

New project, new possibilities…

While waiting for news from a few producers regarding The Sleeping Deep, I hunkered down and tidied up a 30-page supernatural/thriller I’ve been tinkering with called A Dawning Darkness. The first part “A Sea Witch for All Seasons” sets the stage for what (I’m planning) will become a much larger story set in Portland, Maine (or a waterfront district of the sort) and revolves around a pair of detectives, a gang of magical warriors, and the wrathful Shansatka, Shadow Queen of Vak’thil. Oh my!

Logline: When the long buried coffin of an ancient sea witch is hoisted to the water’s surface, a flurry of bizarre deaths spark an investigation that becomes bloodier and deadlier at every turn.

Part sci-fi, part supernatural with a mix of spooky moodiness (moody spookiness?) and “budget conscious” design, the plan is to use this script as a new writing sample for more opportunities with companies looking for similar material.  Part one has been registered with the WGA and is available for consideration. Email me if you’d like to give it a read.

Now, back to your original programming!

I attended the first Los Angeles H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival over the weekend with my buddy Michael Mulcahy, one of the team members on The Sleeping Deep promotional materials. It was a lot of fun and was great to see  some familiar faces as well as meet a few new folks. I didn’t go crazy with picture taking, but here are 2 pics from inside the lobby.

I’ll be there next year!
